Johnny brought the bus to the Speedway Coachworks workshop here in Shropshire, where the restoration began under a tight deadline! The original panelling of the bus needed replacing, to which the parts were later recycled and used as furniture for the campsite – a quirky little touch. As shown in the photos below, the bus was stripped right back to the shell, and new panels were fabricated to look just like the originals. The bus has been powdercoated and signwritten with traditional Maltese Bus designs. And a beautiful ‘Patricia’ painted across the front, as an homage to Johnny’s late mother who sadly passed before seeing the finishing touches of the project.
The inside of the bus has been converted into a glamping space of dreams! Equipped with a living space, bedroom, bathroom/shower and kitchen, the bus is the perfect space for winding down and relaxing in the beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire, where Patricia sat with a field of other brilliant glamping vehicle conversions!
All in all, the bus has been burnt in a fire, stripped back to it’s shell, reconstructed, welded, fabricated, powder coated.. you name it! Johnny was so pleased with the result, and the bus was sold out within 1 hour of holiday bookings going live! It was a great project to be involved in, supplying and installing internal prints, drawing up concepts, getting to meet Johnny himself and even serving him a cuppa (PG Tips of course!!)…
